Mexican Spanish to Klingon in Latin letters: dropping by is a journey, not a fall

A visit hidden inside caer

A Mexican message can announce a visit with Te caigo en la tarde. The Diccionario del español de México records this popular arrival sense separately from physical falling. Translating the verb as a downward movement would turn a social arrangement into an accident. The important event is somebody showing up, with the afternoon supplying the proposed time.

Do not extend that interpretation to every occurrence of caer. A button coming loose, a person losing balance and a visitor arriving belong to different dictionary senses. In a conversation about meeting at home, the visitor reading has strong support; in a report about a broken chair, physical falling may be precisely the intended event. Klingon verb selection must follow that distinction before its location expressions are assembled.

The destination and the setting can be different places

KLI’s location lesson contrasts yuQDaq jIleng, travelling on a planet, with DujDaq yuQ wIleng, travelling to a planet in a ship. These are attested teaching examples, not translations of the Mexican invitation. They demonstrate why a place where movement happens and the place reached by that movement must remain distinct.

For an original Mexican account of dropping by a friend’s home while travelling through town, the town can provide the surrounding setting while the home supplies the destination. Merely attaching the same location ending to every place risks obscuring that relationship. The Klingon construction depends on the selected movement verb: some verbs allow the destination as their object rather than requiring a separate equivalent of Spanish a.

This also makes a literal preposition replacement unreliable. Spanish en in the afternoon concerns time, whereas en in a vehicle concerns a spatial setting. The source visit expression contains both a social event and a temporal phrase; it does not imply that every en phrase needs a Klingon location suffix.

Who is arriving, and who is being addressed?

Mexican Spanish ustedes can address several friends as well as a formal group. Its third-person verb agreement therefore cannot establish that the speaker is discussing absent people. The RAE distinguishes grammatical third person from the second-person interlocutors represented by usted and ustedes. This matters when a visit invitation changes from addressing one friend to addressing everyone in a group.

In an original dialogue, first resolve whether the speaker announces their own visit or asks the listeners to come. Those two messages reverse the traveller and destination perspective even if both use the popular arrival meaning. A Klingon output that retains the location but assigns movement to the wrong participant has not preserved the arrangement.

The Latin writing option makes these distinctions inspectable without a specialised font, but familiar Roman letters do not make Spanish endings transferable. Read the target as its own movement construction: identify the traveller, the destination and any separate setting. Then check whether the Mexican source describes arrival, an invitation or an actual physical fall.
