Mexican Spanish to Indonesian: immediately afterwards is different from just now

Place luego on the event’s timeline

A Mexican Spanish update with luego may promise something later, ask for it promptly or connect two events. Before translating into Indonesian, identify whether the action is still pending or has happened. A short interval after an earlier event is different from a short interval before the moment of speaking.

El Colegio de México’s dictionary records later and soon meanings for luego, and immediately afterwards for luego luego. It also records an occasional meaning and a consequence use. The repeated expression therefore deserves interpretation as a complete expression rather than two separate promises to do something later.

For an original delivery update, a driver may say they unloaded the boxes and left immediately afterwards. That describes the relationship between unloading and departure; it does not establish that either happened just now. If the trip was yesterday, translating the departure as recent relative to the present would move the event to the wrong part of the timeline.

Indonesian baru has several jobs

Jembatan Bahasa’s teaching explanation distinguishes baru modifying a noun with the meaning new from uses before a predicate expressing recent occurrence. It presents baru saja and informal baru aja for just now, and baru-baru ini for recently. These expressions are not interchangeable merely because they share the same visible word.

The school also gives examples where a new object and a recent action coexist in one sentence. A new sofa can have just arrived, for example. Object novelty and event recency contribute separate information. When translating a Spanish delivery message, decide whether nuevo describes the item or whether the text says something about when it arrived.

Imagine an original office exchange about a replacement printer. It can be newly purchased but delivered last month, or an older borrowed machine delivered minutes ago. The machine’s condition does not determine the delivery time. If the Mexican Spanish source says the technician connected it immediately after delivery, preserve that sequence separately from whether the machine itself is new.

A promise is not a completion report

A request to send something promptly does not say it has been sent. If luego appears in an urgent Spanish request, keep the action pending unless another clause confirms completion. A fluent Indonesian expression about something that has just happened would give the recipient the wrong status, even if it successfully conveys a sense of short timing.

For a receipt exchange, distinguish asking for the receipt soon, promising to send it later, reporting that it was just sent and saying it was sent immediately after payment. Those four messages answer different questions. Retain any explicit payment time or date rather than replacing it with a general impression of urgency.

In translation memory, label a saved timing phrase with its reference point: now, payment, arrival or another event. Keep promises separate from reports of completed actions. On reuse, check which event precedes which, whether the action is finished and whether new describes an object. These details let an Indonesian reader reconstruct the intended schedule without mistaking a past sequence for a present update.
