English to Chhattisgarhi: write for the people receiving the message
Choose Chhattisgarhi on purpose
Chhattisgarhi and Hindi share Devanagari writing and a considerable amount of vocabulary, but selecting one is not equivalent to selecting the other. For an announcement intended for Chhattisgarhi readers, keep that language selected throughout revisions. A paragraph can look convincingly Devanagari while drifting toward Hindi in its pronouns and sentence structure.
A short example from the native grammar is मैं घर जावत हौं, I am going home. Its familiar script should not encourage an editor to replace the ending with a Hindi construction. When checking a result, ask whether the intended readers would recognize their language, rather than judging only whether the letters and a few nouns look familiar.
An instruction has a relationship as well as an action
English you does not tell the translator whether the recipient is a close friend, a respected visitor, or several people. Chhattisgarhi offers distinctions such as तैं and the respectful आप. Identify who will receive the message before composing a request. A direct instruction among friends may be unsuitable as the wording of a public invitation.
Keep the recipient and purpose in the source whenever possible: an instruction to all visitors differs from an invitation to a friend. Adding please can express politeness in English, but it cannot by itself settle every target-language choice. Review the address and the command together, because a polite opening paired with an unsuitable verb form can still sound inconsistent.
A local form is not automatically an error
Dr Vinod Kumar Verma documents variation within central Chhattisgarhi, including forms such as हे and आय in comparable contexts. That means an unfamiliar form should be checked against its setting before being replaced. A family message and a broadly distributed notice may also call for different levels of local familiarity.
For a notice covering several districts, prefer wording that the actual readership understands and have a local reader flag expressions that feel narrowly regional. For personal correspondence, preserving a familiar regional expression can be a benefit. Avoid treating a single automatic output as a declaration that all other local usage is incorrect.
Make the English source concrete
An English administrative phrase such as process the case can be vague even before translation. State whether someone must submit a form, check an application, approve a payment, or investigate a complaint. Chhattisgarhi translation becomes more useful when it conveys the action people need to take, rather than reproducing an abstract English office phrase.
When preparing a reusable public message, keep the intended audience, district context, and required action with the saved translation. Ask a reader to explain the instruction back in their own words. If that explanation changes who should act or what should happen, revise the source and translate again. This practical comprehension check is especially helpful when several local expressions could all appear plausible.
