Chhattisgarhi to English: keep the speaker’s meaning without guessing identities
Treat the source as Chhattisgarhi
A Devanagari passage is not automatically Hindi. Chhattisgarhi has its own pronouns, expressions, and grammatical patterns, and a Hindi interpretation can flatten distinctions in a personal account. Select Chhattisgarhi as the source when you know that is what the writer used. Retain the original passage while checking the English, rather than first rewriting it into guessed standard Hindi.
The native grammar’s मैं घर जावत हौं means I am going home. The useful English result expresses the ongoing movement naturally; it does not need to imitate the source’s final verb arrangement. Translating a complete clause gives the system more evidence than entering each word independently and assembling the fragments afterward.
Do not add a gender that the source leaves open
Verma illustrates ओह गाना गावत हे with both masculine and feminine Hindi explanations: someone is singing. The isolated Chhattisgarhi sentence does not justify choosing a particular person’s gender. In English, the surrounding passage may identify he or she; where it does not, singular they or a repeated name can sometimes preserve the uncertainty.
The same caution applies to संगी, a companion or friend, which the author lists among words usable across genders. Friend is often the appropriate English choice without an added boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, or wife. Those more specific relationships require evidence from the message. A plausible social guess should not become part of the translation.
Respect can survive without a separate pronoun
Chhattisgarhi distinguishes familiar and respectful address, whereas modern English normally uses you for both. That does not mean a respectful message has to become cold or abrupt. Its courtesy can be carried through a suitable request, greeting, or form of address, depending on what the writer actually said.
Do not inflate every respectful form into very formal English. A warm request to an older relative may still belong in ordinary conversational language. Read the whole exchange to identify whether the speaker is asking, directing, thanking, or teasing. The emotional purpose is a better guide to English register than a mechanical rule that every honorific must produce an elaborate phrase.
Explain a local reference only when needed
A personal account may mention a locally understood event, food, or social role. Keep the name if it identifies something specific; add a short explanation when an English reader would otherwise misunderstand the action. Replacing an unfamiliar festival with a familiar but different celebration changes the account rather than explaining it.
Check the final English for unsupported additions: an assumed gender, an invented family relationship, or an office procedure that the source never specified. Where regional vocabulary remains uncertain, keep the original term in your working notes and seek clarification from the writer. A faithful partial explanation is more useful than a confident English sentence built on an unverified guess.
