Making English participants and requests clear in Bhojpuri
Do not judge a pronoun by its Hindi counterpart
Bhojpuri and Hindi can be written in Devanagari, but a familiar spelling does not guarantee the same grammatical job. In Bhojpuri, हम can refer to the first-person singular, I. An English writer who has learned Hindi may recognize the form and incorrectly assume that the translation has changed one person into a group.
For a message written in your own voice, ‘I’ can therefore appear as ‘हम’. A plural reference may instead use a form such as ‘हमनी’ for we. Keep the actual group clear in the English source: a personal acknowledgment, a promise from your team and an invitation including the reader are different messages. Do not change the translated pronoun merely to make it agree with a rule learned for another language.
Choose the relationship behind ‘you’ before selecting a verb
Bhojpuri distinguishes degrees of respect in personal reference and verbal agreement. A short English you leaves that information unstated. The target form should reflect the intended person and relationship rather than defaulting to the same expression in a family chat and a first customer contact.
‘रउआ’ is a respectful second-person form in described Bhojpuri usage. Its respectful character must be considered with the accompanying verb; changing a pronoun alone is not a complete adjustment of the sentence. Regional and conversational variation also matters, so a form familiar in one community should not be presented as the only valid wording everywhere.
For an ongoing exchange, follow the participants’ established address choices. If several colleagues reuse a reply, identify who is speaking and who receives it before selecting a saved version. English does not always mark these social choices grammatically, while a Bhojpuri sentence can carry them in more than one place.
Give the noun phrase and action together
Bhojpuri commonly uses an object-before-verb pattern and postpositions following the noun phrase. English often places its object after the verb and its preposition before the noun. Do not reorder a finished Bhojpuri sentence to imitate English without checking how its grammatical relationships are expressed.
A small quantity expression offers another useful contrast: ‘one book’ can be ‘एगो किताब’. The form एगो contains a counting element and can contribute an indefinite reading. It is not necessary to force every English a or the into an isolated word with the same position. Keep the whole noun phrase in the input so the target wording can show what is being identified or counted.
When translating a practical request, state the item, recipient and action explicitly where the English message could otherwise leave them ambiguous. A document sent to a customer and a document received from that customer involve different relationships even if the same names occur. Review those roles together with the respectful forms. Finally, keep Devanagari spelling and combining marks intact rather than replacing the result with a Hindi-looking alternative simply because the scripts are shared. The goal is a Bhojpuri message in the intended speaker’s voice, not a script conversion of a different language.
