Bulgarian to Azerbaijani: rebuilding an introduction rather than its word order

Read the person endings on both sides

A Bulgarian introduction often combines a pronoun, a form of съм and a profession or description. Azerbaijani can express that predication with a personal ending attached to the descriptive word. The Peace Corps lesson illustrates Mən həkiməm for a speaker identifying as a doctor. A translator therefore needs to transfer the assertion and its person, rather than reserve a separate Azerbaijani word for every Bulgarian component.

This matters when an introduction continues across several sentences with an omitted Bulgarian subject. Keep track of who is speaking before evaluating the Azerbaijani endings. A fluent-looking sequence can otherwise shift from the speaker’s profession to the addressee’s. Bulgarian verb inflection supplies useful evidence even where аз or Вие has not been repeated; the target must encode the corresponding participant through its own construction.

Respect is visible in a whole question

Bulgarian Вие and Azerbaijani siz can both participate in respectful address, but that similarity does not make every remaining word invariant. Compare the Peace Corps name questions Sənin adın nədir? and Sizin adınız nədir? The contrast reaches the possessive expression as well as the pronoun. In a Bulgarian registration enquiry, changing a target draft from familiar to formal address requires checking the phrase about the customer’s name too.

The Bulgarian original may also use Вие for several actual people. Separate that reading from courteous singular address before deciding what the Azerbaijani message asserts. A form letter addressed to one applicant should not accidentally become a group questionnaire. Use the surrounding salutation and the number of people expected to answer to resolve this, rather than interpreting respectful grammar as a literal headcount.

A Bulgarian grammatical gender is not a biography

The Azerbaijani introduction lessons gloss o with both male and female reference. Bulgarian, by contrast, has a three-gender nominal system and gender agreement in descriptions. Translate the actual identity or profession being communicated; do not try to reproduce every masculine, feminine or neuter ending as a separate target pronoun distinction.

For a short staff biography, this produces a useful two-part check. First verify that the Azerbaijani profession and descriptive predicate refer to the intended colleague. Then check any later family or occupational information on its own merits. An unmarked target pronoun does not mean that an explicitly stated relationship in the Bulgarian original may be discarded, and Bulgarian grammatical gender alone is insufficient grounds for adding personal information.

Questions and negatives need their own reconstruction

Bulgarian question marking and Azerbaijani question formation should be assessed as complete clauses. Likewise, a negative professional identification is more than an affirmative sentence with a Bulgarian negative particle replaced. The Peace Corps materials place deyil within Azerbaijani negative predication and show personal endings associated with the negative construction.

For an introductory email, review these functions in order: who identifies themselves, whom the questions address, and which claims are denied. Those are precisely the points where Bulgarian separate words and Azerbaijani endings can distribute information differently. The objective is a usable exchange between the same participants, not a target sentence retaining the Bulgarian sequence of pronoun, auxiliary and descriptive word.
