Belarusian to Tamil: person, respect, and grammatical gender must be separated
A plural-looking Tamil reference can identify one respected person
Belarusian вы can address either several people or one person respectfully. Tamil likewise has forms with plural associations that can refer respectfully to a single person, including third-person references. The Tamil Virtual Academy illustrates this through அவர் and related forms. A translated account does not necessarily acquire additional participants when an honorific form appears.
The course example கண்ணன் வந்தார் refers to Kannan having arrived, with respectful agreement. It is useful evidence that the target verb must be read together with the intended person and social reference. Counting people from an ending alone can misrepresent a Belarusian message about one visitor.
Belarusian noun gender is not automatically human gender
Belarusian adjectives agree with nouns in gender, number, and case. A feminine adjective can describe a grammatical object rather than a woman, while a neuter noun can name something with a different natural interpretation. Before choosing Tamil personal reference, distinguish an actual person from the grammatical class of the source noun.
This matters in a message alternating between a person and their belongings. A Belarusian feminine word for a book can influence its adjective without making the book a female participant in the story. A Tamil translation should preserve the object reference rather than choosing a human pronoun solely because the Belarusian description has feminine morphology.
The Tamil Academy’s examples distinguish forms referring to people from those referring to things. That grammatical distinction needs to be resolved through the actual referent. It cannot be supplied by mechanically carrying over Belarusian masculine, feminine, and neuter labels.
The source past form still needs its actor identified
Belarusian past agreement gives gender and number but does not independently distinguish first, second, and third person. Чытаў, a masculine singular past reading form, needs the conversation or a pronoun to establish whether the reader is I, you, or he. Do not use its masculine ending as a reason to translate an omitted first-person subject as another man.
In a Tamil clause, the person reference and appropriate agreement should express the participant actually recovered from the Belarusian source. A respectful reference to a third person is not the same decision as a polite form of address to the recipient. The message can address one person while reporting another person’s arrival.
For a practical review, separate the addressee, the actor of each event, and any object mentioned. If the Belarusian writer says that a visitor arrived and brought a book, the visitor’s respectful Tamil reference should not spread automatically to the book. Likewise, the book’s Belarusian gender should not change the visitor’s identity.
The useful check is therefore referent by referent: one person or several, human or nonhuman, speaker or somebody else, and whether respectful reference is intended. Those questions make the Tamil choices understandable while preserving information that the Belarusian source distributes across pronouns, agreement endings, and context.
