Belarusian to Azerbaijani: an accusative ending does not establish the same definiteness
A book can be an object without being an identified book
Belarusian marks a direct object through its case construction. In Я чытаю кнігу, the book noun has an accusative form, but the sentence can describe reading a book without identifying a particular book for the listener. Azerbaijani distinguishes a bare indefinite object from a definite object with an accusative ending.
Mən kitab oxuyuram can express reading a book, while Mən bu kitabı oxuyuram identifies this book. These are illustrative target choices for different source readings. The fact that Belarusian кнігу is accusative does not require an Azerbaijani definite-object ending in every context.
Before choosing the target form, establish whether the source conversation already identifies the book, adds a demonstrative or simply introduces an activity. A translation that mechanically replaces an accusative source ending with an accusative target ending can make an unspecified item more definite than the writer intended. Conversely, dropping the target ending for an identified object can weaken the intended reference.
Past agreement carries different information
Belarusian past verbs mark gender and number but do not distinguish grammatical person through the same set of endings. The pronoun and context help identify whether a past form describes the speaker, listener or someone else. Azerbaijani finite verb morphology instead includes person endings without a corresponding masculine-feminine past contrast.
When translating a Belarusian first-person account, keep who is speaking while allowing the target to leave the source gender distinction unexpressed in the verb. This matters when a quotation is forwarded. The original writer’s I remains the speaker represented in a direct quotation, while a new report about that writer uses a different target person construction. A correct Azerbaijani tense does not compensate for changing that speaking position.
Prepositions and case must be interpreted together
Belarusian prepositions can combine with different case constructions to express motion and location. The source accusative can therefore occur in a place expression as well as a direct object. Azerbaijani often places the corresponding relationship into noun case morphology or a postpositional construction.
For a message about taking a book somewhere, first distinguish the book as the affected object from the destination as a place. They may both involve an accusative-looking Belarusian construction, but they do not receive the same Azerbaijani treatment. The target needs to say both what is carried and where it goes.
A useful review separates the source subject, object and place relationship before inspecting the target endings. Then check whether the object is identified or indefinite in the actual context. This preserves the practical content of the Belarusian message while respecting the different jobs done by case and person morphology in Azerbaijani.
