Azerbaijani group introductions in Malagasy

The listener’s membership changes the target we

Azerbaijani biz establishes a group including the speaker without itself distinguishing whether the listener belongs to that group. Malagasy makes a contrast between inclusive “isika” and exclusive “izahay”. A translated plan may therefore require context beyond the detached source pronoun.

If an Azerbaijani writer invites somebody to join a meeting, the listener can belong to the proposed group. If the writer reports an internal team meeting to an outside customer, the listener may be excluded. A friendly tone does not automatically settle that membership.

Follow the source exchange through any change from report to proposal. The same people can be described as an exclusive group in one clause and joined by the listener in the next. Repeating one target we without reconsidering its membership can alter the invitation.

Sex-neutral reference still needs a clear person

Azerbaijani o can refer to a male or female third person. Malagasy “izy” likewise does not require a separate male-versus-female choice in this reference. An unchanged target pronoun need not lose a grammatical sex distinction that the source never supplied.

Clarity still matters when the source discusses two colleagues. Retain an existing name or role where the Malagasy reader would otherwise not know whose attendance is being reported. A target pronoun cannot independently recover a participant change that was understood through the Azerbaijani predicate.

Also keep the third person separate from the first-person group. Mentioning a colleague before a statement about we does not establish whether that colleague belongs to the group. Source event roles and the surrounding conversation determine the answer.

The predicate can precede the person identified

The Malagasy introduction “Mpampianatra aho” identifies the speaker as a teacher. It places the occupational predicate before the speaker reference. An Azerbaijani identity statement with a person ending can therefore become a target structure whose ordering looks different while expressing the same assertion.

The Texas typological resource describes Malagasy subject-final constructions and their interaction with verbal patterns. This is not a universal instruction to reverse every Azerbaijani sentence. Identify the subject and predicate through meaning before evaluating their target order.

In a source sentence about somebody preparing an item for a meeting, distinguish the person acting from the thing affected. A target construction that foregrounds a different participant must still preserve the actual event roles. Recognising the activity word alone is insufficient.

Do not add an English-shaped copula automatically

Azerbaijani can attach person information to present occupational or descriptive predicates. Malagasy also permits nonverbal predication without an inserted equivalent of English is. A separate target copula should not be added merely to imitate an intermediary English gloss.

The source profession, condition or identity still needs the appropriate complete Malagasy assertion. A pair of dictionary words in a familiar order does not establish that construction.

For a group introduction, first determine who belongs to we, then who each third-person reference describes and what the predicate asserts about them. These checks preserve the Azerbaijani participants while allowing Malagasy to organise its clause around its own predicate and subject relationships.
