Assamese to Azerbaijani: introducing a visitor and explaining where to meet
Keep the visitor identifiable across sentences
Azerbaijani o can refer to he, she, or it. If an Assamese introduction distinguishes a woman from another person already mentioned, that distinction may not remain visible in a repeated target pronoun. Keep a name where it is needed to identify the visitor rather than assuming every sentence will continue marking gender.
For an arrival message, introduce the visitor once, then identify the host and meeting point. If two visitors are travelling separately, repeat their names at the point where their plans diverge. A compact translated paragraph is less useful than a clear one when the recipient needs to meet the right person at a station.
Respectful address does not settle headcount
Assamese honorificity and number are separate grammatical features. Its respectful second-person wording can address one person, while plural reference is expressed independently. Azerbaijani siz also serves in polite singular address as well as plural address, so its appearance alone does not prove that the message concerns several hosts.
Write the number of people expected to arrive if it matters for transport. A respectful request to one host to collect three visitors contains two different counts: one recipient and three passengers. Do not infer the passenger count from the form of address.
When reusing an introduction for a friend rather than an unfamiliar contact, translate the complete revised message. A familiar pronoun and a courteous verbal form are not pieces to exchange independently without checking the resulting sentence.
A destination can be expressed inside the word
Azerbaijani attaches case information to nouns. The Peace Corps manual gives məktəbə for “to school,” illustrating a suffix on the destination rather than a separate preceding word. Its vowel-harmony examples show that suffix vowels vary with the stem. A translated place expression may therefore be longer than the place name you recognize.
Keep the venue’s official name visible beside the directions, but do not remove grammatical material from the sentence merely to make the name look unchanged. If a booking form requires an exact venue name, enter that identifier in its own field and use the full translated sentence for the explanation.
For a travel update, distinguish the departure point, current location, and destination in the Assamese source. Three similar-looking place phrases can have different jobs. Confirm which place each person is leaving and where the host should wait, rather than checking only that every city name appears somewhere in the output.
Preserve the local spelling of the meeting point
The Azerbaijani Latin alphabet distinguishes ı from i and includes ə. These are ordinary letters, not decoration to discard when copying a message from another script. Retain the spelling used on the reservation or sign so the host can recognize the meeting place.
Before saving the introduction, check the visitor’s name, host, passenger count, arrival time, and meeting point. Include the date if the message may be read later. Save the entire confirmed arrangement, then generate a revised translation if a different visitor or destination is substituted; the names and grammatical endings may both need attention.
