Amharic to Azerbaijani: separate gender, courtesy and noun relationships

The same Azerbaijani pronoun can refer to a man or a woman

Amharic distinguishes gender in familiar second-person singular forms such as አንተ and አንቺ. Azerbaijani sən does not make that male/female distinction. Likewise, Azerbaijani o can refer to he, she or it. A repeated target pronoun does not therefore prove that the translator confused two people distinguished in the source.

Courtesy is a separate distinction: siz can address someone respectfully as well as refer to more than one addressee. Choose the intended relationship from the Amharic exchange, rather than interpreting every siz as a group. A formal reply to one person must remain a reply to one person even where the target form has plural uses.

When a message alternates between two individuals, keep their names where the source provides them and where the Azerbaijani would otherwise become unclear. Do not manufacture a gendered ending on a target noun or verb to imitate Amharic agreement. Azerbaijani can express gender lexically when needed, but it does not have the same grammatical gender system.

A shared verb-final tendency does not make the endings transferable

Amharic and Azerbaijani commonly place the object before the verb. That similarity can help a reader recognise the overall clause, but each language marks its relationships differently. An Amharic object marker or verbal object suffix cannot be reproduced by attaching a visually similar piece to an Azerbaijani dictionary word.

Azerbaijani noun forms can combine number, possession and case information. For a message about sending someone's belongings to another person, identify the owner, the belongings and the recipient separately. A changed ending on the owner or item may express one of those roles without introducing another person or object.

The documented form məktəbə means ‘to school’. A destination expressed on a noun is not missing simply because the target lacks a separate preceding word. Conversely, do not treat every added syllable as a destination marker: the role depends on the actual suffix and construction. Compare the complete movement or transfer statement before removing an unfamiliar ending.

The Latin output still has its own spelling system

This direction uses the Latin-script Azerbaijani convention associated with Azerbaijan. The letters ə and ı are normal letters, not corrupted versions of e and i. Dotted i and dotless ı are distinct, so simplifying them to the same character can damage a copied name or word.

Suffix vowels also follow harmony patterns. Kitablar and güllər illustrate different plural forms with -lar and -lər. Do not standardise both endings to one spelling merely because the source expresses the same broad idea of plurality. The target stem influences the form of its ending.

For a name originally written in Amharic fidäl, use an established Latin spelling when the person or organisation supplies one. Keep that identity decision separate from translating ordinary vocabulary. A clear Latin display does not by itself establish that the spelling, participant relationship or grammatical ending is correct.
