Afrikaans to Uzbek: follow the suffix rather than the word count

A destination can become part of a noun

Afrikaans na die skool and by die skool distinguish movement toward a school from being there. Uzbek can encode that difference through endings: the annotated corpus distinguishes maktabga, to school, from maktabda, at school. Recognizing the shared stem does not establish that a travel instruction has been translated correctly.

This contrast is especially useful for collection and meeting messages. First decide whether the Afrikaans writer is telling somebody where to go, where something already is, or where an event happens. Then inspect the whole Uzbek expression. A destination ending attached to an otherwise correctly translated place can still change the practical instruction.

Objects are not always bare nouns

Uzbek kitob, book, and kitobni illustrate a base noun and its accusative form. Afrikaans often identifies a direct object through the sentence construction without adding an equivalent ending to the noun. An Uzbek output with a longer noun can therefore preserve a relationship that Afrikaans leaves to syntax.

Do not remove a suffix to make a borrowed name look more familiar. The Uzbek corpus likewise marks personal names for case. In an Afrikaans sentence mentioning the sender, recipient, and package, identify those three roles explicitly; the Uzbek translation can distribute their grammatical information across endings that have no separate source word.

An Afrikaans possessive becomes a construction

Afrikaans can link a named owner with se. Uzbek can mark a possessor with the genitive: Denizning is an attested genitive form of Deniz. This does not mean that every Afrikaans se is replaced by an independent Uzbek word. The relationship may involve changes inside the noun phrase instead.

Where several owners are mentioned, write the Afrikaans names again at the point where their belongings are distinguished. A run of hy, sy, and possessive references may be easy for the original writer to follow, but the target construction must still identify the correct owner. Keep ownership separate from the person physically carrying or delivering the object.

Do not export the Afrikaans negative frame

Afrikaans commonly uses a sentence pattern with nie occurring twice. Uzbek has its own negative morphology and negative auxiliaries. The corpus records negative forms such as bilmaydi and kelmagan, and also forms of emas and yoʻq. Their existence is a warning against translating two Afrikaans negative markers into two independent target negatives.

For a refusal or cancellation, establish the scope in Afrikaans: is the activity impossible, not planned, unfinished, or simply prohibited? These meanings should not collapse into one generic no. Finally, retain Uzbek Latin spelling, including the marks in oʻ and gʻ when they occur. Afrikaans uses the Latin alphabet too, but shared alphabet direction does not make its spelling conventions suitable for rewriting the Uzbek result.
