Persian to Xhosa: a verb extension can preserve a relationship expressed separately in the source

A purpose phrase is part of the event rather than another object

Persian Online illustrates barā-ye didan-e yek film in a sentence about going to the cinema to see a film. The phrase explains the purpose of going. It does not add another destination beside the cinema or make the film the traveller. A Xhosa translation must retain the relationship between the journey and the intended activity.

The source uses several separate words to express that purpose, but preserving their number or position is not the goal. The target may distribute relationships through a different construction. First identify the journey, its participant and the intended seeing, rather than translating every source component as though it named a separate event participant.

Some Xhosa relationships are expressed in an expanded verb stem

The SADiLaR grammar portal contrasts pheka, cooking, with phekela, cooking for somebody, and bona, seeing, with bonisa, showing. These documented stem contrasts illustrate different relationships, not interchangeable spellings of the same activity. The expanded stem can carry information that another language expresses through additional wording.

For Persian into Xhosa, that means a target word with extra verbal material is not necessarily an added action. It may preserve a beneficiary or a caused perception already expressed in the source. Conversely, an extension should not be inserted merely because the source happens to contain a preposition: the actual event relationship must justify it.

The cinema-purpose example does not establish that one particular Xhosa extension translates every Persian barā-ye phrase. Seeing a film as the purpose of a journey differs from cooking a meal for a person. The portal’s examples demonstrate available distinctions while leaving the full target construction dependent on the event being translated.

A recipient is different from an additional causer

Persian Online’s giving examples mark a specific transferred item with rā and introduce the recipient separately with be. That source structure identifies what changes hands and who receives it. The receiving person does not automatically become somebody causing the giver to act.

The Persian compound-verb lesson supplies another caution: telefon kardan names calling by telephone, and kušeš kardan names trying. A doing or making component inside a source compound does not automatically introduce an external causer. Selecting a Xhosa causative simply because kardan looks familiar would change who is responsible for the activity.

Likewise, the portal’s seeing-versus-showing contrast concerns whether somebody sees or is enabled to see something. A source account of seeing an item should not become a report of showing it to another person merely because the extended target stem is recognizable. The added relationship must already belong to the source meaning.

For this direction, separate purpose, benefit, receipt and causation before selecting a target verb construction. Persian can express them through phrases or complete compounds; Xhosa can express some through verbal extensions. The useful translation preserves those relationships without inventing another participant or reducing a purposeful event to an unrelated list of nouns.
