Persian to Lower Sorbian: a person’s role changes the pronoun form
The same Persian word can mean I or me
Persian Online illustrates man in both I went and he saw me. The pronoun itself stays constant; the construction identifies its grammatical role. Lower Sorbian has a case paradigm, so transferring one target pronoun into every occurrence would lose a distinction the target expresses through its form. Identify whether the person acts, is affected or accompanies someone before choosing the Lower Sorbian wording.
This is particularly useful in short personal updates. A Persian message mentioning the writer twice may use man both times while shifting from the person who travelled to the person somebody met. The repeated source word does not require repeated Lower Sorbian spelling. The reference can stay the same while the target grammatical form changes.
Accompanying somebody is a distinct relationship
Stone’s specifically labelled Lower Sorbian pronoun table gives ja as first-person nominative and ze mnu as an instrumental phrase. These represent different grammatical environments, not two people. The preposition and case form belong together; the second phrase cannot be interpreted merely as the subject pronoun with a decorative addition.
The Persian preposition lesson separately illustrates accompaniment with bā u, with him or her. It also discusses a colloquial enclitic construction associated with Tehrani usage. When such a compact form appears in a Persian message, recover the accompanying person rather than assume the word is a newly named actor. A Lower Sorbian translation needs to retain who came and who came with that person.
A polite addressee does not necessarily mean several addressees
Persian šomā can respectfully address one person as well as refer to plural you. Stone notes that Lower Sorbian wy can likewise serve honorific address to one person or two. The existence of a target plural-looking form therefore does not by itself prove that the translation has increased the group size.
At the same time, Stone’s Lower Sorbian paradigm distinguishes dual wej from plural wy in ordinary number reference. A Persian message explicitly addressed to two people supplies information that a bare plural or respectful pronoun alone may not supply. Establish the intended participants and address relationship together, rather than replacing every šomā with a dual simply because two names occur nearby.
Do not borrow the neighbouring standard’s form
Stone prints separate personal-pronoun tables for Upper and Lower Sorbian. Similar-looking forms across them are not permission to combine paradigms. In particular, the Lower Sorbian dual forms should be checked in their own table instead of imported from an Upper Sorbian learning chart. This matters when a Persian translation is requested specifically for Lower Sorbian.
The Persian source can also omit a separately written person expression in colloquial constructions described by the preposition lesson. Such compression is a reason to interpret the relationship carefully, not to delete it from the target. In an arrival report, preserving the actor, companion and actual addressees keeps the message useful even when Lower Sorbian expresses those distinctions with more visibly varied pronoun forms.
