Persian to Bosnian: keep a reported appointment tied to the original conversation

The time of speaking and the time of visiting are separate

A Persian message can report an earlier conversation about a visit that was still in the future when the conversation happened. Translating it into Bosnian requires preserving both events: when somebody spoke and when the visit was expected. An English intermediary containing would can obscure that distinction if it is mistaken for a hypothetical condition.

Alexander’s Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian grammar explains that indirect discourse does not impose the English-style tense backshift illustrated in her comparison. A past reporting verb does not by itself require the reported clause to move into a past tense. Her examples also distinguish a reported future from a conditional interpretation.

The University of Texas Persian sentence-structure material illustrates explicit time expressions, including diruz, yesterday, and shows that a time expression and the subject can exchange positions. Its examples establish that timing must be interpreted with the sentence, rather than assuming that the first phrase names the actor or the last time mentioned is the current appointment.

A forwarded appointment message needs its original date

Imagine a Persian-speaking guest telling a Bosnian-speaking host about a message received on Monday concerning a Wednesday visit. This original appointment scenario contains a reporting day and a proposed visit day. If the guest forwards the message on Tuesday, the forwarding date must not silently replace Monday as the reference point for every relative time expression.

A quoted tomorrow refers to the context in which those words were said. Before making it into a calendar date, establish that context from the source. Do not add a date merely because the forwarding interface displays one: that display may record the new message rather than the original conversation.

Likewise, a statement that somebody said they would visit does not independently confirm that they arrived. The reported plan and its fulfilment are separate facts. Keep the source’s reporting frame unless the conversation provides an additional confirmation of arrival.

Preserve whose words and whose commitment are being reported

If the guest quotes the host’s earlier invitation, the quoted speaker is the host even though the guest sends the current message. A first-person expression inside that quotation belongs to the original speaker. Keeping the quotation boundary visible helps prevent a translation from assigning the invitation or travel commitment to the person forwarding it.

Alexander’s comparison is especially useful when an English paraphrase is used during review. A phrase such as knew somebody would come can describe a future viewed from an earlier moment, without setting a condition. Check the actual Persian meaning before choosing a Bosnian construction; do not let the English helper sentence create a hypothetical situation absent from the source.

Read the translated appointment as a timeline with named participants. Identify the earlier conversation, the person whose plan it records, the intended visit, and any later update. Preserve uncertainty about dates or fulfilment where the source leaves it open. A fluent report should communicate the same appointment history without inventing a cancellation, a condition, or a completed visit.
