Kazakh to English: recover the relationships carried by endings
The longest word may hold the missing preposition
Kazakh can put information about possession and case into endings on a noun. English may need several separate words to express the same relationship. Before treating an unfamiliar form as a new vocabulary item, consider whether it contains a familiar stem with grammatical information attached. That is especially useful in messages about someone’s property or a journey between places.
Translate a complete phrase when possible. A place name inside a sentence may indicate a destination, a location, or a point of departure, and those choices require different English wording. Removing the ending before translation can remove the evidence that distinguishes them. Preserve the full source form in your notes even when looking up the base word.
Protect the arithmetic as well as the digits
Numerical expressions can carry a hyphen followed by an inflectional suffix. Universal Dependencies gives 100-ге and 19,4°С-қа as examples of this written pattern. The attached letters are grammatical material rather than extra numerical content. An English version may express their function elsewhere in the clause.
For instructions involving a change in a value, establish whether the number is an endpoint, a difference, or a starting point. A sentence can retain every digit yet describe the wrong operation. Write the English relationship clearly, and check that decimal notation remains understandable to the recipient. Avoid copying punctuation automatically if it would make a decimal look like a list separator.
A verb phrase may express a single action
Kazakh frequently combines a non-finite verb with another verb to express a more specific meaning. The grammar identifies ал as can in potential constructions. Do not translate each component independently and force both dictionary meanings into the English sentence. The combination can communicate ability, duration, or another feature of the main event.
When a message concerns progress, ask whether the action is underway, repeated, possible, or complete. Choose an English construction that expresses that meaning as a unit. In a delivery update, those distinctions determine whether a reader should wait, take action, or expect the task to be finished. A literal string of component verbs may obscure that practical information.
Do not infer gender from an English requirement
Kazakh lacks grammatical gender, so an English translation may face a pronoun choice the source did not settle. Use the person’s name when it is available and relevant. Where the text leaves gender unspecified, singular they can often avoid an unsupported he or she. A recognizable personal name is not always sufficient evidence for a confident inference.
Finally, check whether the English makes the owner, actor, and recipient as clear as the source permits. If the excerpt is too short to settle a relationship, translate a wider passage before polishing it. Keep uncertainty visible in working notes rather than making up a connection. This approach is more reliable than assuming that the first noun must be the English subject.
