Kashmiri to English: recover agreement before deciding who is speaking
A short verb phrase can identify the speaker
Kashmiri agreement can mark person, number, and gender in ways English does not reproduce. In explanatory Romanization, chus parān and chas parān can both be glossed “I am reading,” with masculine and feminine first-person forms respectively. The English sentence may therefore need an explicit I even where the Kashmiri phrase communicates the speaker through its grammar.
Do not turn each agreement distinction into a new English gender description. Use it where it helps identify a participant, then let a normal first-person account remain natural. If several people have been discussed, track which person each verbal form refers to before simplifying the English. A fluent guess can otherwise change who is waiting, working, or completing a task.
Recognize the script without assuming another language
Kashmiri is written in Perso-Arabic and Devanagari, among other historical or specialized practices. A Perso-Arabic source is not automatically Urdu, and a Devanagari source is not automatically Hindi. Identify the actual Kashmiri words and constructions rather than translating through the most familiar language associated with the script.
The Romanized examples here explain a grammatical contrast; they are not a replacement writing standard for an official identifier. Preserve the original name or address where the recipient needs to recognize it, and use a supplied official English-script form when one exists. Different transliterations can represent the same sound sequence, so a spelling mismatch alone does not establish a different person.
Reconstruct the clause rather than copying a neighboring pattern
Kashmiri main-clause word order and verbal agreement have characteristics that differ from a simple assumption about all South Asian languages. Do not move every verb to the end because a nearby language often does so. Read the actual finite verb, its accompanying material, and the participant references before producing ordinary English order.
Pronoun-related marking can carry information attached to the verb. English may need separate words to preserve those roles. Identify who acts, who receives something, and which item is affected before writing a short service message. A clause with several recognizable names can still be mistranslated if its grammatical links are ignored.
Keep regional vocabulary and time information specific
Kashmiri has regional and social variation. A word unfamiliar from one learning resource is not automatically an error or a reason to replace it with an Urdu or Hindi counterpart. Use the sentence’s actual meaning and the speaker’s context to interpret it. When an isolated expression cannot be resolved confidently, preserve the uncertainty rather than inventing a smooth equivalent.
English articles, prepositions, and tense choices should follow the intended reference and timeline. Retain explicit dates, destination names, negation, and completion words. These details often make the difference between an English statement about an event already finished and one about work still happening.
