Translation processing

Submitted text and selected language direction are sent to Microsoft Azure Translator to produce a translation. Avoid submitting passwords, confidential documents, or personal information you do not want processed by this service. The site does not intentionally retain translation text on its server.

Device storage

Translations are saved only when you select Save. They remain in your browser’s IndexedDB storage. You can export, delete individual entries, or clear all entries. Browser data deletion may remove them. Interface preferences and recent language choices use localStorage.

Operational records

The application records aggregate character counts, request outcomes, and response timing without submitted or translated text. Hosting access logs may contain IP addresses and request paths. The rate limiter uses a salted hash of the IP address in Redis and keeps current-minute client counters and aggregate UTC daily and monthly character totals. The optional Redis driver retains daily counters for up to two days and monthly counters for up to 62 days. The owner must configure hosting log retention and publish its contact and data-rights process.

Visitor ratings

If you choose to rate TranslateMemory, we store your star score and a salted hash of a browser identifier. Updating a rating from the same browser identifier replaces its earlier score. Short-lived salted IP counters limit repeated voting. The public rating average combines visitor votes for the TranslateMemory application across languages; it is not a separate score for each translated sentence. Translation text is not included in rating submissions.

Analytics and advertisements

When enabled, Google Analytics measures page visits and website usage and may use browser cookies. Deanonx is also installed to collect page visits, referring URLs and visit timestamps; its script can collect email addresses entered into email fields. The current translator does not require an email address. Submitted translation text and saved translation content are not intentionally sent to analytics. Advertising is disabled by default. The owner must maintain any consent mechanism required for the intended audience. Exported files contain your translation text; keep backups private.
