Estonian to Portuguese for Portugal: alles distinguishes what remains from what happened only now
A remaining item is different from a recent event
Pilet on alles says that the ticket remains or has been kept. Sain pileti alles nüüd says that the ticket was obtained only now. The Estonian word alles contributes different information in these original examples. A Portuguese translation for Portugal should preserve whether the message concerns retaining a ticket or the late point at which it became available.
The Estonian explanatory dictionary separates remaining or preserved existence from recent occurrence, a not-before boundary, continuation and restriction to a small amount. These senses are related but not interchangeable. A ticket-holder confirming possession answers a different question from somebody explaining why the ticket could not be sent earlier.
Portuguese ainda can express continuation without imposing a small amount
Priberam records ainda with meanings including up to now and for the time being. It also records ainda agora for a short time ago. Thus a Portuguese expression with ainda can contribute persistence or recency, but the complete phrase matters. A bare association between alles and still does not determine which of those relationships the Estonian intended.
If a ticket remains available after other tickets have been lost, the target should preserve the continued availability. If the ticket arrived only moments ago, the target should preserve the recent arrival instead. Combining the two indiscriminately could make a retained ticket sound newly issued or make a new arrival sound like an old item that merely survived.
The source Sain pileti alles nüüd can also imply a later-than-expected boundary. The practical point is that earlier receipt did not happen. Translating only the fact that receipt was recent may fail to explain a delay when that boundary is central to the conversation. The surrounding account determines whether recency alone is enough.
A small quantity introduces another kind of restriction
Alles kaks piletit presents only two tickets, often as a surprisingly small quantity or an early stage toward a larger total. Priberam describes apenas as expressing restriction or singling out an element. That is a different comparison from saying tickets continue to exist. The target should keep the restricted count rather than reinterpret it as simply two surviving objects.
A sales update saying only two tickets have been sold differs from an availability update saying two tickets remain. The first can indicate weak sales; the second can indicate a nearly sold-out event. Their practical implications point in opposite directions. Estonian alles can participate in different readings, so the noun, predicate and account of the sales process cannot be ignored.
For Estonian ticket messages into Portuguese for Portugal, distinguish possession continuing, receipt occurring recently, receipt happening no earlier than now and a limited number. Portuguese ainda, ainda agora and restrictive apenas offer relevant lexical resources, but none replaces every occurrence of alles. The translation should let the recipient infer the correct availability or delay from the actual source claim rather than from a convenient one-word equivalent.
