English to Traditional Mongolian: choose the written form, not a Cyrillic-looking approximation

Traditional spelling can retain a vowel modern Cyrillic does not show

An English word needs its established traditional Mongolian spelling, not a mechanical character conversion from a shortened Cyrillic form. Water is “ᠤᠰᠤ,” conventionally transliterated usu, while the modern Cyrillic form is ус. The written difference reflects orthographic history rather than a different English item.

For a name or ordinary noun, consult the traditional form as a word. A sequence that merely resembles a modern pronunciation may omit letters required by the written standard. This is especially important when the translated text will appear on a label or in a message where the reader expects actual traditional writing rather than an informal phonetic approximation.

Book, doctrine, and rule should not collapse into one guessed sense

“Book” can be “ᠨᠣᠮ.” The corresponding Mongolian word also has extended uses in contexts involving teachings, a canon, or rules. If an English source refers to a manual, a religious teaching, or following the rules, select the sense through the whole phrase rather than assuming one isolated equivalent communicates every meaning.

Keep the modifier and action with the noun. A request to return a borrowed volume is different from a sentence about complying with a rule. The surrounding English words often supply exactly the information needed to avoid an overly broad target noun. Do not discard them merely to make the traditional-script output look shorter.

The target phrase needs Mongolian relationships and order

English frequently expresses ownership, origin, and destination through separate prepositions. Traditional Mongolian uses its own suffixes and phrase structures. Identify the owner, affected item, and recipient before composing the noun phrase. Replacing an English preposition with a dictionary suffix without checking the complete construction can change the relationship.

The object commonly precedes the Mongolian verb. An English instruction should therefore be rebuilt around the target sentence rather than copied word by word. Keep negation and completion language attached to the action they qualify. The reader should still understand whether an item is being requested, sent, received, or described as already available.

Connected shapes and vertical layout belong to the writing system

Traditional Mongolian letters change visible shape according to their position and neighbors. Do not insert spaces into a word merely to make each letter look like an alphabet chart’s isolated example. The ordinary connected spelling is the meaningful text, and its appearance depends partly on correct shaping.

The script is normally arranged vertically with columns progressing left to right. A horizontal preview can be useful for copying, but it does not make the script an Arabic-style right-to-left system. Preserve exact technical strings separately where needed, and verify the traditional text in a suitable display before interpreting unfamiliar letter shapes as evidence that the translation chose a different word.
