Dogri to English: recognise the language behind familiar letters
Devanagari recognition is only the first step
Dogri uses Devanagari here, but shared script does not authorise reading its sentences as Hindi. A familiar-looking noun may be useful while a different verbal or grammatical form carries the actual relationship. Interpret the complete expression in Dogri before selecting an English sentence.
घर can mean “house,” and पानी means “water.” In a message, English may need “a house,” “the house,” or a quantity such as “some water.” Choose those forms from the intended reference rather than assigning one fixed English phrase to every occurrence of the source noun.
Find the actor without inventing one
Dogri can use passive and impersonal constructions that present an event without naming a direct actor. An English translation should preserve that scope. If the source reports that work was completed, do not automatically change it into a statement naming the recipient or writer as the person who completed it.
For a practical update about documents or payments, distinguish who acts from who receives or experiences the result. A smooth English subject–verb sequence can still reverse the relationship. Read the noun forms and the whole construction before rearranging words into an English order.
Treat pronunciation and written identity separately
Dogri has tone and regional pronunciation differences that an informal Roman spelling may not show reliably. When a source name is available in Devanagari, preserve it while checking the intended person or place. An approximate English-letter rendering should not be the only evidence used to identify a record.
Use a conventional English spelling where a passport, invoice, address, or earlier correspondence supplies one. A new transliteration can be readable yet fail to match a searchable name. If several places have similar Roman spellings, retain enough address information to avoid collapsing them into one destination.
Choose English wording for the message’s actual function
A Dogri heading, direct request, and report may share a verb root without doing the same job. Establish whether the source names an activity, asks somebody to act, or describes an event. English may require a noun phrase in one context and a complete clause in another. Do not turn every short line into an imperative.
Keep the level of certainty and responsibility intact. An indirect or impersonal report should not become an explicit promise unless that meaning is present. Finally, compare dates, quantities, and reference strings with the source independently of fluency. Meaningful vowel and consonant marks should remain intact while checking unfamiliar words. A font or copy-and-paste problem should be investigated as a display issue before the original spelling is altered.
