Dogri to Chinese traditional: a quality does not require a separate be verb
A Dogri copula is evidence about the source assertion
Sawhney describes predicative Dogri adjectives on either side of a copula, noting an effect on emphasis. When a Dogri statement calls someone good or busy, that copular pattern helps establish that a quality is being asserted. It does not require Mandarin to put 是 before the corresponding property expression.
The Oxford Chinese course distinguishes stative predicates from the use of 是 linking noun phrases. It illustrates 他很忙 as a statement about someone being busy, while identifying someone as a member of a category uses another construction. The target can therefore make a complete property assertion without a separate word matching every source copula.
For an original Dogri explanation that a teacher is busy, preserving teacher and busy is not enough if the target treats busy as a second identity category. The intended assertion concerns the teacher’s condition. Adding a be-like item solely to imitate Dogri can change the grammatical structure rather than make it more complete.
A description inside a noun phrase is not the same assertion
The Chinese resource also distinguishes a noun modified by a description from a main predicate describing that noun. Those two arrangements can share a property word while doing different work. A Dogri reference to a good teacher identifies a person through a description; saying the teacher is good makes that property the assertion.
This difference matters in an original Dogri recommendation. The source may identify which teacher will attend and then separately say that the person is busy today. A Chinese target that places both qualities inside a single identifying phrase can lose the second assertion or change what the writer is actually reporting.
Dogri adjective agreement should not be used to bypass this distinction. Sawhney’s changa and changi examples show gender-related form variation, but the masculine or feminine ending does not itself determine whether the source expression is a label or a complete predicate. Recover that role from the full copular construction.
Negating the quality must preserve the same claim
Oxford illustrates 不忙 as a negated busy predicate. This is a concrete contrast with an affirmative quality statement. A target can preserve the name of the condition while reversing the message if its negative is lost or attached to another part of the sentence.
For a Dogri reply explaining that the teacher is not busy, distinguish denying the condition from denying that the person is a teacher. The two replies can contain the same person and profession but contradict different claims. Mandarin 不 before the quality does not perform the same job as a negation of an identity statement.
The traditional-character option changes the requested writing system, not these predicate distinctions. This guide concerns Mandarin constructions as represented in that option, rather than assuming every traditional-script reader uses the same regional variety. Preserve what the Dogri sentence asserts: a quality, a category or a negated condition. The target’s own predicate structure is the evidence that the intended claim survived, even when a separate Dogri copula has no matching visible word.
