Danish to Central Kurdish: a personal ending can identify the person informed rather than the informant

Danish subject and object forms provide a useful starting point

Sproget.dk distinguishes Danish jeg from mig and han from ham in its personal-pronoun inventory. Its example of seeing somebody makes the participants explicit through separate pronouns. When checking a Central Kurdish translation, identify the actor and affected person before interpreting the personal elements attached to other words.

Do not assume that the final personal-looking part of every target verb identifies the person doing the action. Central Kurdish past constructions can organise that information differently. A familiar ending seen in one kind of verb is not a dependable subject label in another.

For a translated update, first establish who arrived, who gave information and who received it. These roles may involve the same people at different points, but their grammatical treatment need not remain identical across every sentence.

Thackston distinguishes intransitive endings from past-transitive object roles

Thackston’s Sorani grammar gives hâtim for I came. In its discussion of past transitive verbs, it gives âgây kirdim for he informed me. The superficially familiar final material does not identify the actor in the same way in these two constructions.

For the latter pattern, the grammar distinguishes an agent affix from the element representing the logical object. It also explains that the agent affix can attach to available material before the verb, rather than always appearing at the end. Its position must be interpreted through the construction.

The source discusses regional differences in past-transitive patterns. Use its examples with their described scope and avoid substituting Northern Kurdish forms. Similar English glosses do not erase the grammatical differences between the two selected translation targets.

A change of wording can change where personal information appears

Imagine a Danish message reporting that a volunteer arrived and that a coordinator informed the volunteer about a schedule change. The volunteer is the actor of arriving but the recipient of information in the second event. A translation should preserve that shift instead of making the volunteer the informant.

If the writer adds a negative to the report, review the placement of personal material as well as the negative meaning. Thackston includes negative prefixes among the elements that can host an agent affix. Adding or removing material before the verb can therefore require a construction-level check.

Do not identify the owner of a nearby noun merely from an attached form. The grammar notes that agent affixes resemble enclitic possessive pronouns. In a past-transitive sentence, an apparent possession-like element can instead participate in identifying who performed the action.

When a summary contains two separate actions by one person, verify the personal marking for each action. The source explains that one agent affix does not simply serve every past-transitive verb in a sequence. Removing a repeated-looking element for concision can disrupt the target construction.

Finally, read the finished update as a record of events: the volunteer arrived, the coordinator supplied information and the volunteer learned about the change. Then inspect the target forms that express those relationships. The goal is to preserve the Danish allocation of roles while allowing Central Kurdish to distribute personal information across the sentence in its own way.
