Bulgarian to Inuktitut in Latin letters: preserve direction inside the word

At, to and from become different word endings

Bulgarian often places a separate preposition before a place expression. Inuktitut can put the corresponding relationship into the noun’s ending. Tusaalanga gives sijjami for at the shoreline, sijjamut for to the shoreline and sijjamit for from the shoreline. The shared beginning does not make these three expressions interchangeable.

For a Bulgarian travel message, establish whether someone is already at a place, heading towards it or returning from it. The location name may stay recognizable while its Inuktitut ending changes. A translation that retains the correct destination vocabulary but chooses an origin ending describes a different journey, so checking the place name alone is insufficient.

Bulgarian ordinary nouns lack a general case declension. A Bulgarian reader may consequently expect the important directional information to remain a separate word. In the Inuktitut result, look through the complete noun rather than concluding that the preposition has disappeared merely because there is no standalone equivalent.

Latin letters do not imply Bulgarian transliteration rules

The Inuktitut Latin option uses an established orthography, not a phonetic respelling of Bulgarian Cyrillic. Tusaalanga’s ICI roman guide uses a, i and u as its basic vowels and treats doubled vowels and consonants as meaningful length distinctions. A repeated letter should not be deleted as though it were a typing error.

In particular, q and k are different letters representing different sounds. Rendering a Bulgarian place or personal name may require a name-specific decision, but native Inuktitut words should retain their target spelling. Applying a familiar Bulgarian-to-Latin conversion table across the entire translated sentence would replace Inuktitut spelling with an unrelated transliteration system.

The actor and the object may share one ending

Bulgarian can express an object through a short clitic, sometimes alongside a full noun phrase. Inuktitut has transitive endings that identify both the actor and the other participant. The visible reduction in separate words can therefore be grammatical compression rather than missing content.

Tusaalanga contrasts takugikkit, I see you, with takuginnga, you see me. They contain closely related material, but the participant relationship is reversed. For a Bulgarian sentence reporting who saw whom, a target ending cannot be evaluated independently of the source object clitic and the source verb’s person. Both pieces contribute to the choice.

Keep time information attached to the correct action

Bulgarian differentiates perfective and imperfective aspect as well as tense. Tusaalanga’s basic structure lesson shows that Inuktitut can insert affixes between the root and the personal ending, including a past-time affix. A Bulgarian past particle or auxiliary need not survive as an equally separate target word.

That structural freedom does not make every past-looking target form interchangeable. When Bulgarian contrasts an intended departure with a departure that already occurred, preserve that contrast inside the translated wording. Keep the target root, intervening affixes and participant ending together; splitting the word to imitate Bulgarian spacing can obscure exactly which action, time and actor belong to one another.
