Bulgarian to Dogri: translate the identified item before converting its letters
The Bulgarian article is not part of the item’s name
Bulgarian книга, book, and книгата, the book, differ in definite reference. With a preceding description, the article can attach to the adjective instead, as in новата книга, the new book. A Dogri translation should preserve which item the sender identifies rather than treating the Bulgarian article-bearing word as a longer dictionary entry.
The CIIL–NCERT Dogri primer gives कताब for book. That lexical match supplies the item’s name, but it does not by itself translate an entire Bulgarian noun phrase. A message introducing a book, a message referring back to the book, and a correction identifying the new book require their relationships to be interpreted before the target sentence is built.
Read the Dogri form as Dogri rather than approximate Hindi
The primer places Dogri vocabulary beside Hindi explanations, which helps demonstrate that shared Devanagari writing does not make the two languages identical. Its Dogri कताब appears alongside Hindi किताब. For this Bulgarian target, a familiar-looking Hindi form should not automatically replace the selected Dogri word simply because both can be read in the same script.
This distinction is useful in a translation about school materials or a book left somewhere. The task is to express the Bulgarian message in Dogri, not to write a phonetic version of Bulgarian in Devanagari or substitute a nearby language’s dictionary list. Check the lexical choice within the Dogri sentence.
Likewise, Bulgarian letters should not be matched mechanically to Devanagari characters. A transliterated Cyrillic word can remain a Bulgarian word. Translation must preserve the item, action, and relationship before spelling the resulting Dogri expression.
A small relationship word can move across the noun
Bulgarian commonly uses prepositions before a noun phrase to express relationships without a full noun-case paradigm. The Dogri primer’s own text includes forms with च after the relevant noun expression, illustrating a different arrangement for an in relationship. Do not force every target relational element into the position occupied by a Bulgarian preposition.
In a practical message about an object inside a book or house, distinguish the container from the item located there. Bulgarian article placement identifies the container phrase; the Dogri expression must then say the intended relationship naturally. Keeping both nouns while reversing their roles would give the recipient a different instruction.
Pronunciation is another reason to avoid letter-only conversion. Veena Gupta’s linguistic account describes tone as part of Dogri’s sound system, while the Bulgarian reference treats stress within its own phonology. Familiar Cyrillic pronunciation habits cannot simply be transferred to a Devanagari output.
For this direction, the useful review begins with the Bulgarian referent and relationship, then checks that the lexical and written output is actually Dogri. The primer provides concrete spellings; the source grammar explains what the Bulgarian endings contribute. Both are needed to turn a recognizable word into a useful translated message.
