Bosnian to Kazakh: a familiar action word can serve as a grammatical helper

The whole verb construction determines whether another event is added

Bosnian predicates can combine lexical verbs with grammatical auxiliaries. Kazakh also uses combinations in which one verb contributes the main event and another supplies aspectual or modal information. A target containing two verb-like words does not automatically describe two independent actions.

The Kazakh reference lists ал as a potential auxiliary meaning can, and бер in a durative role. These functions belong to particular constructions. A Bosnian source stating an ability should not be interpreted as a separate taking event solely because a target component also has a lexical meaning outside that environment.

Conversely, a source reporting an actual transfer must not lose that action because the translator treats every occurrence of a familiar verb root as a helper. Read the complete Kazakh predicate with its non-finite component before deciding which word carries the main event and which changes its viewpoint or modality.

Ongoing activity does not establish a new posture

The reference identifies several Kazakh verbs used in progressive combinations, including отыр and тұр, when combined with the relevant non-finite form. In that construction, a component associated elsewhere with posture can help express an ongoing event rather than independently announce sitting or standing.

A Bosnian update that someone is working should not acquire an unsupported claim about the person’s posture merely because the target progressive contains such a verb. If posture is explicitly part of the source, however, it remains information to preserve through the appropriate complete construction.

The distinction matters when an activity report is followed by a request. Continuing work, being able to work and physically sitting at a workplace are different claims. The target needs the combination expressing the source’s intended meaning, not simply any familiar helper placed after the lexical root.

Source gender can identify a person without requiring target agreement

The Bosnian specification contrasts bio with bila as masculine and feminine singular participial forms. These can identify a referent even where the source does not repeat an independent pronoun. Kazakh lacks grammatical gender in the cited reference, while still marking person and number on finite predicates.

A target can therefore omit a male-versus-female ending without losing the identity of a previously named person. That absence should not be corrected by inventing gender morphology. The number of participants still matters independently: a gender-neutral construction must not turn a group of colleagues into one colleague or the reverse.

This also explains why a Kazakh verb chain may appear structurally different from the Bosnian predicate. The source can expose gender on a participial form; the target can distribute aspect or ability across a non-finite form and a helper while identifying person and number elsewhere in the predicate.

For this direction, determine the source action, its ongoing or ability meaning, and the actual participants before interpreting the target components. A root that also means take, give, sit or stand in other uses is not sufficient evidence for an extra event. The construction as a whole must preserve the Bosnian claim.
