Bosnian to Bangla: respect changes the predicate as well as the pronoun

A respectful listener needs a coherent target pattern

Bosnian personal reference distinguishes person, number and grammatical case. A message can also address someone formally or familiarly. Bangla requires those interpersonal choices to be represented through a coordinated pronoun and predicate pattern, rather than a polite word inserted at the beginning of an otherwise unchanged sentence.

Dimock and colleagues contrast tumi jano with apni janen in their knowing paradigm. The pronoun and the predicate ending change together. A Bosnian question addressed respectfully to one person should not combine an honorific Bangla pronoun with an ordinary ending merely because both target words independently have plausible dictionary meanings.

The point is the relationship with the listener, not an increase in the number of people. A respectful singular question need not become a request addressed to a group. Keep the audience from the Bosnian source clear while selecting a target pattern whose parts express the same interpersonal treatment.

With you uses a relation that looks possessive

The Bangla course illustrates apnar songe for with you in a polite context. The personal form also occurs in owner-related environments, but that does not make the phrase mean your property. The following relational word determines the accompaniment reading.

Bosnian case distinctions can identify accompaniment through a different grammatical package. A source expression involving someone as companion should not be mistranslated as ownership merely because the Bangla personal form resembles a possessive. Conversely, a Bosnian phrase identifying whose item something is cannot be completed by adding songe: it would change the relation into accompaniment.

For a message about going with a colleague and carrying that colleague’s item, the same person appears in two roles. Bangla can use related personal material while distinguishing the constructions. Follow the companion and owner separately rather than require two wholly unrelated target pronoun roots.

Source gender need not be echoed by every target personal form

The Bosnian specification distinguishes bio and bila as masculine and feminine singular participial forms. Such a source form can supply information about the person described even when an independent pronoun is absent. Read that agreement as part of identifying the referent.

The Bangla knowing paradigm’s third-person distinction includes ordinary se and honorific tini, with a corresponding honorific predicate ending. Its organising contrast here concerns respectful reference, rather than reproducing the Bosnian participle’s male-versus-female opposition in every word.

If a Bosnian source refers to a woman respectfully, the target should retain who she is and how she is referred to. A gender-neutral-looking target personal form does not automatically erase her identity, but choosing an ordinary pattern can still lose the respectful treatment. Conversely, a source participle’s gender cannot decide the listener’s register when a different person is addressed.

This direction therefore requires following the reference chain across pronouns, participles and relational phrases. Identify the person from the Bosnian wording, determine whether they are actor, companion or owner, and preserve respect through the Bangla construction serving that role. A short familiar target pronoun cannot substitute for that complete analysis.
