Bodo to English: identify the action before rearranging the words
Do not read Bodo through another Devanagari language
Bodo uses Devanagari, but the shared script does not make a text Hindi. Interpret its words and grammatical relationships as Bodo. A familiar letter sequence may still represent a word you have not encountered in another language, and assigning the nearest familiar meaning can produce a convincing but incorrect English sentence.
आखाइ means “hand,” while थाइजौ means “mango.” These ordinary vocabulary items illustrate why recognition of the script is only a first step. Translate a common noun for its meaning. For a person or place name, instead consult an established English spelling or use a careful transliteration that preserves the identity.
English normally needs a different clause order
Bodo commonly places the object before the verb. English usually requires the verb before its object. First identify who performs the action, what is affected, and any recipient; then arrange a natural English sentence. Copying the source sequence can obscure those roles even when the dictionary words are individually correct.
A message about giving a document to someone should not become a statement that the recipient gave it. Read grammatical marking and the wider construction before deciding which noun is the actor. In a forwarded fragment, earlier sentences may be needed to identify the same people that the original writer assumed were already known.
Keep the scope of a noun’s meaning
ओंखाम refers to cooked rice. English “rice” may be adequate in a meal context, but a shopping or agricultural message may need “cooked rice” to preserve the distinction. Do not erase information simply because a broader English word is shorter. Conversely, do not add a preparation method the source never mentions.
The same principle applies to local objects and activities. If the English reader is unfamiliar with a particular item, a concise descriptive equivalent can be more useful than a sound transcription alone. Keep names and quoted titles separate from ordinary vocabulary, because those may need to retain a conventional form rather than an explanation of their literal components.
Supply English grammar without adding new facts
English articles and explicit subjects may be needed even when the source packages reference differently. Choose “a,” “the,” or a plural expression according to whether the item is new, known, or counted in the message. Do not apply one fixed English phrase to every occurrence of the same Bodo noun.
Finally, inspect names, amounts, dates, and identifiers independently of fluency. A readable English paragraph still needs to point to the same person, booking, or payment. Preserve reference codes exactly and use an existing English name spelling where the relevant record supplies it. Keep the original Bodo intact while checking unfamiliar marks, since a font or rendering issue is not a reason to delete meaningful characters.
