Bhojpuri to Inuinnaqtun: a gift word can already identify the direction of the event

Given and received are different lexical viewpoints

A Bhojpuri exchange about a gift needs the giver, recipient and item identified before an Inuinnaqtun entry is selected. The Nunavut Arctic College dictionary distinguishes aittuuhiaq, a gift received, from aittuun and its listed variants for a gift given away. Selecting a target noun merely because its broad English gloss says gift can therefore miss the viewpoint expressed by the source.

For a Bhojpuri account of receiving something from a relative, the translated item must remain something received in that event. A word used for an outgoing present can alter how the exchange is understood. Conversely, a message about preparing a present for someone else should not imply that the writer has already received it. The surrounding source verbs and postpositional relationships matter as much as the noun.

A dictionary form may contain participant reference

The dictionary lists aittuqtaa in a giving construction with reference to a particular him, her or it, and separately gives aittuqtuq for giving a gift or giving something away. These entries show that target forms can package information differently from a Bhojpuri sequence of verb and separate participant expressions.

Do not assemble a target sentence by appending every Bhojpuri pronoun beside a form whose lexical or grammatical content may already concern that participant. Equally, do not assume the entry has all the reference needed for the source event. Identify who acts and who receives the item, then use a documented target construction rather than treating a dictionary gloss as a set of freely interchangeable building blocks.

One recipient differs from distribution to many

The dictionary also distinguishes aittuqtuijuq in the context of distributing something to many people. A Bhojpuri statement about a family receiving gifts therefore needs the event structure interpreted: is one present given to one person, one item shared by a group, or separate gifts distributed among several people?

Those alternatives can share the same general topic and polite tone while describing different actions. A target form associated with distribution should not be chosen simply because the source mentions several relatives somewhere in the paragraph. Determine whether they are all recipients of this action or merely people discussed in the surrounding narrative.

Bhojpuri pronoun number must be settled before the target event

Thakur Lohar’s Bara-Parsa grammar identifies हम as singular and हमनी among plural first-person forms. That distinction affects whether one writer or several people give or receive the present. A Hindi-based assumption about the same-looking source pronoun can change the event before the Inuit-language vocabulary is selected.

The Inuit dictionary itself has a defined community and teaching history, developed with elders for Inuinnaqtun at Nunavut Arctic College. Its attested distinctions are valuable evidence without constituting a complete sentence-generation recipe. For this direction, preserve the source count, identify gift direction and distinguish an individual transfer from distribution. These are precise semantic decisions that prevent superficially related dictionary forms from describing a different exchange.
