Belarusian groups and movement in Lower Sorbian
Two participants can require more than an ordinary plural
Belarusian distinguishes singular and plural in its grammatical number system. Lower Sorbian actively uses a dual for two referents. A source statement about a pair can therefore require a target number choice beyond simply preserving the source plural form.
In Belarusian “мы”, we, the group may contain two people or more. A message identifying the writer and one companion supplies evidence for a pair; a message about an entire team may not. Establish the actual group before checking Lower Sorbian agreement.
The same distinction applies separately to different participants. Two visitors can arrive to meet a larger group of hosts. Do not make every target noun or predicate dual merely because one pair appears in the source message.
This is useful when a saved travel message is reused. Changing the party from two people to several can affect the target grammar, not just a printed numeral or the list of names.
Source case endings identify roles, not target forms
Marchant’s Belarusian paradigm gives “сталу”, dative singular of table, and “сталом”, instrumental singular. Such source forms show why the noun’s relationship must be understood before it is translated. They are not separate lexical entries that require unrelated target nouns.
Lower Sorbian also retains substantial inflection, but that does not make a Belarusian ending a valid target ending. Identify whether a phrase describes a recipient, an instrument or another relationship, then use the Lower Sorbian construction that expresses it.
A message about moving or using an object can be mistranslated even if the target noun looks related. Review who acts, what is affected and where the action leads rather than relying on familiar Slavic stems.
Movement with a purpose can select a special activity form
The DOBES documentation identifies a Lower Sorbian supine, a nonfinite form typically used after movement verbs. A Belarusian message about going somewhere to perform an activity may therefore require something other than the target dictionary infinitive.
First distinguish movement from completion. Going to collect a document is not the same as having collected it. A target phrase that names the right activity can still remove the journey or assert an outcome the source has not claimed.
Also preserve the actor. The person moving, the person requesting movement and the person who will receive the item can be different participants. A correctly shaped target activity form cannot correct a clause assigned to the wrong person.
Slavic aspect does not make the languages interchangeable
Both Belarusian and Lower Sorbian use verbal aspect. The shared grammatical category is helpful, but it does not justify transferring an entire source predicate by resemblance. Decide whether the source reports an ongoing activity, repetition or a completed result.
For a work update, preserve whether somebody worked on a task or finished it. A recipient deciding whether to distribute a document needs that distinction more than a matching-looking verb.
Lower Sorbian is distinct from Upper Sorbian and Serbian. Keep the selected target language and its spelling consistent when copying the result. General Slavic familiarity does not replace checking the pair, participant roles and event reading.
