Belarusian agreement and Eastern Armenian reference

Grammatical gender need not reappear on the target verb

Belarusian distinguishes masculine, feminine and neuter nouns, and singular past forms can reflect the subject’s gender. Modern Eastern Armenian does not impose a matching grammatical-gender system. A source agreement ending should be understood before deciding what information the target needs.

Marchant’s Belarusian “быў” and “была”, was, illustrate the source contrast. In a first-person statement they can identify different speakers while describing the same kind of event. An Armenian translation need not invent an extra male or female verb ending to mirror them.

Preserve lexical information the source actually states. A mother, father or named individual remains the same person even where the target grammar does not mark gender in the same place. Absence of a matching ending is not automatically an omission of that identity.

One respectful addressee can take plural agreement

The Armenian grammar documentation distinguishes familiar “դու” from formal “Դուք”. The formal expression can address one person while combining with second-person plural verbs. Actual recipient number and grammatical agreement must therefore be checked separately.

For a Belarusian request to one customer, establish that individual addressee before choosing the target address pattern. A plural-looking Armenian predicate can be appropriate without changing the reader into a group.

Conversely, a message to several people should retain the real group rather than being analysed as courteous singular merely because a similar form is available. The surrounding source names and situation determine the intended audience.

When a saved request is reused for a different relationship, inspect the whole Armenian clause. Replacing only a personal name may leave a familiar or formal pattern unsuited to the new recipient.

A source case label does not determine the target object

Belarusian has its own case paradigms, including accusative and dative distinctions. Armenian object constructions can use forms described as nominative or dative, depending on the noun and verb relationship. Similar case terminology does not establish a one-to-one mapping.

For a source instruction involving a person and an item, identify who acts, what is affected and who receives it. Then review the Armenian construction as a complete clause. A target dative form is not automatically an indirect recipient just because that is a familiar source use.

The same participant can also be an owner or beneficiary in another phrase. Do not let a plausible suffix replace the task of tracing the source relationship through the sentence.

Small target elements can change the clause’s purpose

The documentation identifies Armenian “պետք է” in necessitative constructions. A Belarusian statement of obligation should be distinguished from a future prediction or a simple description before checking the target phrase.

The possessive “իմ”, my, provides another small element with a specific function. It identifies an owner, not the person who must perform an action. A request can mention both in the same clause.

For a finished translation, trace the source actor, obligation and owner independently, then read them together in the Armenian sentence. Correct alphabet rendering and a recognisable noun do not establish that the intended person has been assigned the intended responsibility.
