Bashkir to Kannada: distinguish the person speaking from the person pointed out

First-person reference and third-person description behave differently

Bashkir personal morphology can identify participants without assigning a male or female interpretation to an isolated possessive form. Kannada also leaves gender unstated in its first- and second-person personal pronouns, but its demonstrative reference distinguishes gender and number. A broad rule that every target pronoun is neutral would therefore be misleading.

The Kannada Kalike table gives ನಾನು nānu for I and ನಾವು nāvu for we. Those expressions identify participant number without specifying the speaker’s sex. When translating a Bashkir first-person message, do not add a gender distinction merely because other Kannada pronoun forms require one.

The same resource distinguishes demonstrative pronouns by gender and number. A Bashkir message that points out a person or object may consequently need more referential information for the target. Establish who or what is indicated before selecting a Kannada form rather than infer the person from an occupation or family stereotype.

Number belongs to the actual participants

Kannada ನೀನು nīnu and ನೀವು nīvu distinguish singular and plural in the introductory personal-pronoun table. A Bashkir message about one person or a group should preserve the actual participants through the appropriate target construction. Number cannot be recovered from the main noun alone when the source omits an already understood subject.

Bashkir noun plurality is expressed through stem-conditioned suffix variants, as in kitap and kitaptar for book and books. Kannada has its own number forms and agreement. Translating several items does not automatically mean that several people own them, and a plural group does not automatically make every possessed item plural.

The source may combine these facts inside one word. Poppe describes a sequence in which plural, possessive, case, and predicate information follow the noun stem. A Kannada translation should unpack the contributions before constructing the phrase, not replace the entire string with a dictionary noun.

Possession and location need separate reconstruction

The Bashkir contrast ata and atam distinguishes father and my father. The ending identifies a relationship with the speaker. A target sentence that simply names a father or mentions I elsewhere does not necessarily preserve that relationship; the Kannada family expression must state the intended owner appropriately.

If the same Bashkir noun also carries a case relationship, the target needs that information too. A note about a relative being at a place differs from a request for the relative to go there. Choose the Kannada construction for location or destination according to the event rather than treating all place-related endings as equivalent.

For a Bashkir family or travel message, compare the Kannada output for the identity behind demonstrative reference, the actual number of people and things, and the relationship between owner and place. Those checks address different parts of the source. A natural-looking target pronoun does not prove that a compact possessive or spatial suffix was translated, while a correct noun alone cannot establish the roles of the people around it.
