Bashkir reading reports and Estonian object completion
A familiar case system still needs the target event analysed
Bashkir uses noun suffixes for grammatical relationships. Estonian also has extensive case marking, but the target object form can interact with event extent and completion. A source case ending does not dictate an Estonian object ending by a shared label alone.
Compare “Ma loen raamatut” with “Ma loen raamatu läbi”. The first describes reading without itself asserting complete traversal of the book; the second presents reading it through. The object form and the whole target predicate work together.
For a Bashkir task update, determine whether the writer reports work underway or a completed reading task. A particular book already established in the conversation can occur in either event description. Known reference alone does not select the target completion pattern.
Negation needs the full target object construction
The negative “Ma ei loe raamatut” denies reading in the relevant context. It contains the negative construction and a partitive object. A source Bashkir negative should not be translated by adding one target word to an otherwise unexamined affirmative sentence.
Not reading an item differs from not being able to read its language or not having finished yet. These messages can contain the same book noun while denying different propositions. Keep the Bashkir reason and time setting with the predicate.
The Estonian institute also explains that verbs differ in their object behaviour. The reading contrast is not a universal ending chart for every action involving a document. Select the target predicate before deciding which object form its construction requires.
A sex-neutral person can remain sex-neutral
Bashkir ул can refer to a male or female person. Estonian “ta” can likewise refer to either. A target sentence can preserve the participant without inserting a separate he-versus-she distinction.
If the source describes two people, however, the target must still identify who reads and who sends the item. Retain a source name or role where repeating the shorter pronoun would make either person a possible antecedent.
Participant clarity is separate from object completion. A target that describes the right stage of reading can still attribute it to the wrong colleague. Follow both facts through the complete exchange.
Source courtesy does not decide a target case
Bashkir formal address can concern one respected listener or several listeners. The source social relationship does not establish the Estonian object case or determine the number of people performing an action reported elsewhere in the message.
In a formal request asking a listener whether a colleague finished a document, identify the listener and reader separately. The source polite pronoun belongs to the inquiry, while the target completion construction concerns the colleague’s task.
For this direction, review who acts, what is affected and whether the source claims completion or denies the action. These decisions preserve the Bashkir report while allowing Estonian case and predicate structure to express the event in its own way.
