Bashkir to Chhattisgarhi: preserve ownership while choosing actual local forms
The source noun may already identify an owner
Bashkir can add possession directly to a noun, so translating only a recognizable noun root can leave an important relationship behind. Chhattisgarhi needs to express the same owner through its own construction. Similar placement of grammatical material after a word does not make the source suffix transferable.
The Bashkir examples ata and atam distinguish father and my father in Poppe’s transcription. A translated family message should retain the speaker as the person whose father is meant. The target family noun alone does not provide that information, even where the surrounding exchange makes the relative seem obvious.
Number is independently encoded too: kitap and kitaptar distinguish book and books. When a message concerns someone’s belongings, preserve the number of objects separately from the identity of the owner. A plural target expression should not be taken as evidence that both ownership and quantity have been translated.
A general source reference need not become a gendered label
Bashkir third-person possession can refer to his, her, or its according to context in the cited description. Chhattisgarhi has lexical gender distinctions, but these belong to particular nouns and referents. Do not guess the owner’s sex from the identity of the relative or item carrying the source possessive ending.
Dr Vinod Kumar Verma’s grammar distinguishes टूरा and टूरी while listing general terms such as लइका and मनखे as usable across sexes. A source reference that intentionally remains general should not automatically acquire a more specific target label. Select the expression supported by the person actually described.
For a sentence about a child’s relative, the child’s identity and the relative’s identity are separate questions. A target male–female word choice for one does not establish the other. Track both participants before selecting the Chhattisgarhi family expression and any surrounding description.
Regional alternatives are not automatic errors
Verma documents regional alternatives अइबे/आबे and हे/आय within central Chhattisgarhi. A target form can therefore differ from a memorized version while remaining part of the language. Do not replace every unfamiliar expression with standard Hindi simply because both languages use Devanagari.
Bashkir case suffixes also express relationships such as destination, location, and source. Chhattisgarhi must form those phrases through its own relational expressions. A source noun’s direction or position cannot be preserved by translating its vocabulary and then ignoring the ending.
For a Bashkir note asking when a relative will arrive or where belongings should go, verify the actual Chhattisgarhi clause, the intended relative, and the spatial relationship. Then consider whether any regional wording is appropriate for the recipient. The correct script does not prove the language is Chhattisgarhi, and a familiar Hindi-looking phrase does not prove that the source’s ownership or destination has survived.
