Bashkir to Armenian: do not duplicate the possessive marking
Two source signals can become one target choice
Bashkir can express an owner through a pronoun and a possessive suffix on the noun. Poppe describes first- and second-person possessive constructions in which the head noun may carry the corresponding suffix. A source phrase can therefore identify the same owner in more than one place without referring to two owners.
Eastern Armenian offers both a possessive phrase and an attached possessive article, but Sakayan warns against combining redundant first- or second-person marking. For my house, իմ տունը and տունս are alternatives. A mechanical combination equivalent to my house-mine is not the recommended construction in her account.
This is useful when translating a Bashkir sentence that emphasizes whose object is under discussion. Do not assume that every visible possessive marker needs its own target marker. First identify the owner, then select the Armenian construction. If the source stresses a contrast between my item and yours, preserve that contrast through a suitable complete expression rather than duplicating possession simply because the source repeats it.
An ending may identify a noun without naming an owner
Bashkir case suffixes identify relationships such as direct object, destination, source and location. Armenian noun endings also carry grammatical information, but a familiar-looking position after a noun does not establish an identical function. In particular, Eastern Armenian uses attached definite articles.
Sakayan illustrates շուն, dog, with շունը for the definite form. The attached article identifies a particular referent; it is not a possessive ending meaning my or your. Her discussion also notes that the choice of definite-article form depends partly on the sound environment. Treat the target noun and its ending as a complete grammatical expression.
In a practical Bashkir message, a definite object may be recoverable from accusative marking and the conversation. The Armenian translation should preserve that reference through its own construction. Do not label every final Armenian element a case suffix, and do not remove the article merely because the source did not contain a separate word corresponding to the English the.
Keep the source relationship when another suffix follows
A Bashkir possessed noun may receive additional case marking. The resulting word can say both whose thing it is and where it stands in the event. Possession alone is therefore insufficient to translate a phrase about moving an object from someone’s house.
After choosing an Armenian possessive construction, check the location or direction independently. A message about being at home differs from an instruction to come from home, even if the same house and owner appear in both. Retain the source relationship before deciding how the Armenian phrase is arranged.
The examples here follow Sakayan’s Eastern Armenian description. This scope matters because Armenian has established regional and written varieties. Keep the selected variety coherent while checking the specific grammatical problem: whether the owner is expressed once in a natural construction, whether the intended object is identified, and whether any source case relationship has also survived. A correct script conversion alone cannot answer those questions.
