Azerbaijani ownership in Northern Kurdish past reports

A target possessive follows the owner’s role in the clause

Azerbaijani can identify a possession through noun endings and personal reference. Northern Kurdish additionally uses a reflexive possessive when the owner is the relevant subject. A target expression must therefore preserve the ownership relationship rather than substitute one possessive word for every source suffix.

The grammar contrasts “kitêba min”, my book, with “kitêba xwe” for the subject’s own book. Xwe does not invariably mean my, his or her. Its interpretation depends on the clause and the actor to whom it refers.

An Azerbaijani report that a colleague brought the writer’s book differs from one that the colleague brought their own book. Both can be clear in the source while a mechanically selected target possessive erases the difference. Label the owner before choosing the target construction.

A past observer can have an oblique pronoun

The reference example “min ew dît” expresses I saw him in its stated context. The first-person oblique form identifies the observer in the past transitive construction. Its shape should not be interpreted through an Azerbaijani object case in isolation.

Azerbaijani has its own participant marking, but it does not supply a universal direct-to-direct or oblique-to-oblique correspondence with Kurmanji. Establish who sees and who is seen, then inspect the target case and agreement.

This also affects the owner of a reflexive possession. In the relevant past transitive environment, logical agency matters even where the actor does not appear in the familiar direct-case subject form. Do not transfer ownership to another participant merely because their pronoun looks more like a memorised subject.

Source sex-neutral reference does not remove target grammatical gender

Azerbaijani o does not divide third-person reference into male and female forms. Kurmanji has gender and case distinctions within its noun and pronoun systems. The source context may therefore be needed to interpret a target choice that a detached Azerbaijani pronoun cannot settle.

Use an established name or role where necessary to keep two people distinct. Do not treat an automatically selected target masculine form as newly discovered information about the source person.

Grammatical gender on a target noun is also separate from the sex of its owner. A source possession can belong to one person while the noun’s target category controls other forms in the phrase.

Do not replace the requested variety with a respelling

This target is Northern Kurdish, or Kurmanji. Central Kurdish differs in morphology and ordinary written practice. Changing the alphabet of a Central Kurdish sentence does not by itself produce the requested Northern Kurdish grammar.

Azerbaijani and Latin-script Kurmanji use some familiar-looking letters, but their vowels and marked letters should retain the target spelling. Remove no distinctions merely to make the output resemble an Azerbaijani keyboard entry.

For a past-event report, review the logical actor, the affected participant and the owner of any item. Those three relationships preserve the Azerbaijani account even where Northern Kurdish case forms and reflexive possession organise it differently.
