Azerbaijani thanks and Inuinnaqtun recipient number
A respectful source form does not settle the number thanked
Azerbaijani siz can address a respected individual or a group. Inuinnaqtun has its own number distinctions in personal expressions, so a source polite form cannot be converted automatically into a target plural merely from its surface association with plural address.
The community dictionary distinguishes singular “ilvit” from plural variants “iliphi / iliffi” for you. These entries identify number; they are not a complete table equating Azerbaijani levels of courtesy with Inuinnaqtun pronouns.
For a source note thanking one respected instructor, preserve the one recipient. For a note to several helpers, preserve the group. The source context must establish this before the target form is assessed. A plural-looking Azerbaijani polite predicate is not independent proof that several listeners are present.
Thank-you forms can distinguish a pair
The dictionary gives “quana” as thanks and lists “quanaqqutit” with dual quanaqqutik and plural quanaqquhi for thank you. This shows recipient-number distinctions within a more developed expression, not just several spellings to choose randomly.
Azerbaijani does not provide a matching productive dual pronoun paradigm in the familiar singular-versus-plural address contrast. If the source explicitly thanks two people, preserve that pair as meaningful information rather than reducing it to an unspecified crowd.
The examples should not be used as an algorithm for building every longer Inuinnaqtun sentence. They illustrate attested expressions. For a full message, the surrounding construction can require forms beyond an isolated dictionary heading.
Variant spellings need a consistent local reference
The 1996 dictionary records alternatives within Inuinnaqtun, including the plural you forms above. A translation should not be regularised by assuming that one visible variant is an Azerbaijani-style suffix correction or a typographical error.
The government resource page identifies Inuinnaqtun materials as a distinct language resource. Do not substitute a phrase from another Inuit variety solely because it has a familiar-looking root. The requested target and the intended community’s written usage need to remain aligned.
For a short appreciation message, keep a consistent source for its forms rather than combining several unrelated phrasebook spellings. Variation can be legitimate without making every mixed combination a coherent target sentence.
The person grateful differs from the people receiving thanks
Azerbaijani mən and biz distinguish the individual speaker from a group. A note saying that we thank you has two separate number questions: the number of people expressing gratitude and the number receiving it.
A target expression that correctly identifies several recipients does not by itself preserve whether the writer speaks alone or for a team. Follow both sides of the source relationship before judging the whole translation.
For this direction, establish the speaker group, the exact recipients and whether two people are explicitly named. Then check the attested target expression and its variety. These decisions preserve the Azerbaijani social exchange without treating courtesy as an automatic recipient count.
