Azerbaijani book instructions in Simplified Chinese
Counting, pointing and ownership are separate relationships
Azerbaijani can identify an item through numeral constructions, demonstratives and possessive morphology. Mandarin distributes these relationships through its own noun phrases. A target expression naming the right book can still describe the wrong quantity or owner.
“两本书” identifies two books, while “这本书” points to this book. The book classifier participates in both, but the numeral and demonstrative establish different reference. A source request for two items should not turn into one pointed-out item merely because a saved target phrase contains the same noun.
“我的书” links the book to the speaker as owner. It does not necessarily point to the item nearest the listener. An Azerbaijani source request to bring my book therefore needs ownership preserved independently from any nearby or previously mentioned object.
If the source instructs one colleague to return another colleague’s book, label actor, owner and recipient before checking the target phrase. A natural-looking Mandarin expression cannot independently recover the owner from the person most recently mentioned.
The source numeral-noun pattern also does not predict the appropriate Mandarin classifier for every replacement item. A saved book phrase should not supply an unchanged classifier when the Azerbaijani request is edited to concern another kind of object. Select the complete target noun phrase for the actual item.
A time ending is not a command to insert one event particle
Mandarin “了” participates in event and changed-state constructions. It is not an automatic target past-tense suffix for every Azerbaijani clause describing an earlier action. The relevant question is how the source presents the event and its current implications.
A report that someone was reading for a period differs from a statement that they finished the book. The MIT course explains continuing-duration patterns as well as changed-state uses. The same time span can appear in a target construction without making the activity complete.
In an Azerbaijani instruction to return a book after reading, the reading can be a condition on a future action. Inserting a past interpretation because a target particle looks familiar can turn that instruction into a report that reading already finished. Keep the connected clauses available during translation.
Participant information also needs independent attention. Azerbaijani can encode the actor through an ending even when it omits a repeated pronoun. Mandarin must keep the same actor recoverable through its own clause structure rather than through a nonexistent copied source suffix.
This option uses Simplified characters; that script choice does not resolve ownership, count or event completion. Review which books are identified, who owns them and whether the reading is ongoing, completed or required before another action. Those decisions preserve an Azerbaijani book instruction beyond a list of matching nouns and one familiar particle.
