Azerbaijani book references in Modern Eastern Armenian
A target article is not a source case equivalent
Azerbaijani noun endings can express case and possession. Modern Eastern Armenian also adds grammatical material to nouns, including definite marking, but similar placement at a noun’s end does not establish the same function.
Armenian “գիրքը” identifies the book with definite marking. A source Azerbaijani object form should not automatically be converted to that target form solely because both words visibly have an ending. First establish whether the source means a particular book or any suitable book.
This is useful in an exchange that introduces an item and then asks for its return. The second reference can identify the known item without implying that every earlier mention was already definite. Follow how the source establishes the referent across the conversation.
The same item can enter a new grammatical relationship
Armenian “գրքի” illustrates the corresponding genitive-dative form. It is related to the book noun rather than a different lexical object. Its role must be established from the target construction, not guessed from an Azerbaijani ending with a superficially similar meaning.
A source phrase about a book’s cover differs from a phrase naming an action directed toward an item. Where a target form serves more than one grammatical function, its appearance alone does not decide which relationship the sentence expresses.
For a request to send a document belonging to somebody, separate the owner from the recipient and the item. Azerbaijani supplies those relationships through its own syntax; Armenian needs its own coherent noun phrase and predicate arrangement.
No he-versus-she distinction is required by the pronoun alone
Azerbaijani o can identify a male or female third person. Armenian “նա” likewise does not divide this ordinary third-person reference into separate male and female pronouns. An unchanged target form need not lose information that the source never encoded.
The reader must still be able to recover the participant. If two colleagues appear in the Azerbaijani paragraph, preserve a necessary source name or role where the Armenian pronoun would otherwise be ambiguous. Sex-neutral reference is not permission to merge people.
Possession adds another check. The person carrying the book, the person owning it and the listener asked to deliver it may all differ. A correct pronoun does not prove that these relationships have survived.
Source vowel harmony cannot select target endings
Azerbaijani suffix variants depend in part on vowel harmony. Armenian has its own phonological conditions on definite-marker variants, including the forms conventionally described as -ը and -ն. They are not a matching target vowel-harmony paradigm.
Choose the Armenian form according to the target word and construction rather than carry over the source suffix’s vowel. The meaning contributed by an Azerbaijani ending must first be separated from its sound shape.
This guide concerns Modern Eastern Armenian as described in the cited research grammar. For a book-related request, check identified reference, case relationship and participant continuity together. Those decisions preserve the Azerbaijani message without equating every noun-final segment across the languages.
