Assamese to Dutch: the same reason can require a different clause order

A reason is a complete clause, not just a linking word

Onze Taal illustrates Het regent heel hard, “It is raining heavily,” and a clause introduced by omdat in which the finite verb follows the other material. Dutch main and subordinate clauses organize verbs differently. An Assamese explanation should therefore be translated as a complete statement with its reason, rather than by replacing the connective while leaving every other word in place.

This is particularly useful when an Assamese message explains why an appointment changes or a person stays home. Identify the main claim and the reason separately, then check how Dutch connects them. The target can preserve the intended explanation while putting its verb in a different position.

Do not change the target back to a more source-like arrangement merely because a verb appears near the end. That may be normal inside the Dutch subordinate clause. Conversely, carrying that order into every main clause can produce a different grammatical problem. The boundary between clauses matters more than matching the source string visually.

The person addressed is different from the person who owns

Dutch u and uw perform different jobs: u is a personal pronoun, while uw expresses possession. The Flemish language advice service treats this as a specific writing distinction. A respectful Assamese reference does not make the two target forms interchangeable.

Assamese kinship constructions can cross-reference the possessor on the relative noun. For a message about the addressee’s father or belongings, identify the owner before reviewing the Dutch phrase. A target u can be entirely appropriate as an object or addressee reference without expressing “your.”

For a practical check, ask whether the Dutch identifies the same owner and recipient. In a request to send someone their document, those roles may be different. A one-letter difference in the target can therefore affect a relationship that Assamese expresses through a longer construction or a suffix.

Respectful source agreement does not count the audience

Bharadwaj’s Assamese study documents neutral, informal, and formal address and notes that honorific verb agreement can be identical with singular and plural subjects. Establish whether the Dutch message is directed to one person or several from the situation, not from the respectful ending alone.

Keep the salutation and later requests consistent in target register. Do not turn a respectful request into an intimate exchange because the source mentions one individual, or infer a group because an honorific construction looks plural. The actual social relationship and the actual number are separate facts.

Finish by reading the Dutch as an explanation someone can act on: what is changing, why it is changing, who is addressed, and whose item or relative is mentioned? This direction benefits from a clause-level review because a sentence can retain every main content word while changing the ownership reference or disrupting the reason clause. Accurate relationships and natural Dutch verb placement together make the translated message useful.
