Assamese identities and experience in Traditional Chinese

Naming a role differs from describing a condition

An Assamese sentence can identify somebody’s occupation or describe how the person feels. Mandarin constructions should be selected according to that kind of assertion rather than by inserting one target equivalent of be into every nominal or descriptive source phrase.

“這是書” identifies something as a book. Identity constructions use 是 in a way that differs from ordinary adjectival predicates. A source description saying that an item is expensive should not automatically be assembled as if it were another statement naming its category.

The MIT course treats identity predicates and stative descriptions separately. For an Assamese message about a teacher being tired, preserve both the person’s role and the condition without confusing the role with what the sentence newly asserts. The target predicate should answer the same question as the source.

Having had an experience is not a dated itinerary

Mandarin “去過” illustrates having been somewhere as an experience. The particle 過 in this construction does not merely mean that an arbitrary source event happened earlier. A dated journey and a statement of previous experience organise the information differently.

If an Assamese writer asks whether a colleague has ever visited a place, retain that experience question. A target answer reporting one scheduled journey may not address it. Conversely, a source report naming yesterday’s visit should not lose its specific event merely because an experience form sounds familiar.

The surrounding source question is useful evidence. It can show whether the writer wants to establish familiarity with a place or arrange transport for one particular trip. Translate the exchange rather than choosing a particle solely from the presence of a past-time word.

A written owner can be more specific than a source respectful pronoun

“他的書” means his book in the illustrated written Mandarin expression. The character for the owner is a masculine written choice. Assamese respectful তেওঁ can leave sex unspecified, so the source respectful form alone does not justify that target spelling for every owner.

Where the Assamese message identifies the person through a name, role or another sentence, use that evidence to interpret the ownership. Where it genuinely leaves the matter unspecified, do not treat a default-looking written target character as newly established source information.

Possession is also separate from location. The person currently carrying a book need not own it, and the person asked to return it need not be either of them. Preserve those roles through the complete target phrase.

Traditional writing is a script choice, not Cantonese by itself

This option uses Traditional Chinese characters. It does not automatically request Cantonese vocabulary or grammar, and it should not be checked as though changing character shape alone settles the language variety.

Assamese source social reference and event distinctions remain the same task regardless of the character set. Preserve complete target forms rather than replacing unfamiliar characters with visually similar ones.

For this direction, check whether the clause identifies or describes, whether a visit is experiential or specifically dated, and whose item is mentioned. Those decisions keep the Traditional Chinese message faithful to distinctions that the Assamese source expresses differently.
