Arabic to Russian: reporting what happened without changing the speaker

Explain who is saying “I”

An Arabic account of a delayed delivery may begin with a first-person verb and leave the speaker’s identity to the conversation. Russian past-tense wording can require information that this form does not supply. For example, Я знал and Я знала both mean “I knew,” with masculine and feminine speaker agreement respectively. The Arabic first-person verb itself does not make that distinction.

When translating a personal statement, add context identifying the speaker if it is otherwise absent. When translating someone else’s quotation, identify that person rather than yourself. A courier repeating a customer’s message should not accidentally become the person who received, paid for, or lost the parcel. Save such a translation with the speaker information attached.

Distinguish an activity from its result

Russian aspect distinguishes ways of presenting an action, including whether its completion is asserted. A report that somebody was preparing a package does not establish that the package was ready. Arabic perfective and imperfective forms are relevant clues, but their labels do not provide a mechanical replacement rule for Russian verb choices.

Write the operational fact explicitly before translating a status update: preparation was in progress, preparation finished, or dispatch is still planned. Include “not yet” when that is the point of the message. A recipient deciding whether to travel to a collection point needs the actual result, not merely a sentence that places some related activity in the past.

Do not manufacture a Russian aspect partner by adding a familiar prefix yourself. Aspect pairs are lexical relationships, and a prefix can introduce another meaning. Translate the complete clarified report instead of repairing an unfamiliar verb by analogy with a different saved phrase.

Use names to settle ambiguous roles

Russian case forms help express who acts, who receives something, and other relationships. Arabic also marks grammatical relationships, but a suffix or preposition in the source need not become an independently recognizable word in the target. Comparing the output word by word is therefore a poor way to check a handover.

For a message involving a sender, driver, and customer, temporarily replace ambiguous “he” and “him” references with their names in your own draft. Keep the original if you are reproducing a quotation, and put clarification outside it. After translation, confirm the sender, recipient, and delivery location against those three facts rather than assuming their order will remain identical.

Keep the practical identifiers beside the prose

Arabic and Cyrillic spellings of a person’s name can look very different. For a pickup, retain the booking reference and the spelling used by the actual reservation alongside the translated message. Do not let a newly generated name spelling replace an identifier that staff must match exactly.

Finish a delay notice with the date, expected next action, and whether confirmation is still required. If you later change “I” to “we,” or turn a finished event into a plan, translate the revised sentence again. Those changes affect more than one isolated word in Russian and can invalidate an otherwise useful saved message.
