Amharic to Marathi: clarify who belongs to we and what a possessive describes

The listener may or may not belong to the proposed group

Amharic እኛ identifies a first-person plural group without requiring a separate pronoun choice for including or excluding the listener. Marathi distinguishes inclusive and exclusive first-person plural reference. An Amharic invitation or plan may therefore need context that its pronoun alone does not provide: is the recipient participating, or only being told what the writer's group will do?

Marathi आम्ही excludes the addressee, while आपण can include them. In an Amharic message about arranging transport, that difference can change who expects a seat. A staff group reporting its own arrangements is different from staff and visitors agreeing to travel together. Keep the intended membership explicit before translating, especially when the message will be copied without the conversation that originally explained who was involved.

Do not infer inclusion merely from a friendly tone. A polite update can still concern a group that does not include the reader. Likewise, an instruction assigning a shared responsibility should not become a report about somebody else's task. If the Amharic source is genuinely ambiguous, clarify the participants rather than treating one automatic Marathi pronoun choice as evidence of the writer's intention.

A Marathi possessive ending can describe the possession

Amharic can attach a possessor marker to a noun. Marathi possessive forms also interact with the grammatical properties of the thing possessed. The contrast between माझा, माझी, and माझं is not a change from one owner to another. Do not use the Marathi ending alone to infer the owner's gender or identity.

For an Amharic family introduction, identify the relationship first: who is introducing whom, and whose relative is being described? In a list of belongings, changing the item can require a different possessive form even when the owner stays the same. Review the complete noun phrase after revising the source noun. A word-for-word replacement that preserves the previous ending can leave a grammatically inconsistent Marathi description.

Gendered Amharic address does not choose Marathi familiarity

Amharic familiar address distinguishes አንተ from አንቺ. Marathi familiar and respectful address involve a different decision. The University of Chicago's name-question examples contrast respectful तुमचं नाव काय? with familiar तुझं नाव काय?. Neither question is selected simply because the addressee is a man or a woman.

When adapting an Amharic personal message for a customer or unfamiliar adult, decide the relationship before accepting a Marathi request. Keep its pronoun, possessive wording, and associated forms consistent. An address form appropriate for a close relative may sound different in a first business contact, even when the requested information is identical.

For the final check, compare the Marathi result with three facts from the Amharic source: whether the reader belongs to the acting group, who owns or is related to the named person or item, and how the recipient is addressed. Preserve Devanagari spellings while copying the message; a familiar script does not make a Hindi expression an automatic replacement for a Marathi one. These relationship checks matter more than reproducing the number or position of the source's suffixes.
